Sunan Cendhâna is the story of Empu Bageno’s spreading of Islam to the area south of Bangkalan. After his service as chief minister to the king, Kyai Bageno is granted land in Kobanyar and teaches the people there the ways of Islam. He comes to be known as Sunan Cendhâna because of the fragrant smell of cendhâna, sandalwood, that surrounded him. As told by Pak Abdurrahman
